MOSEL BIKE PATH

FROM 4 DAYS D.I.Y.

There's no need to pack bags and shift hotels day after day! Stay right near Zell's town centre in your bright self-contained apartment in our pretty river-side house and choose which days and sections you ride, connecting easily by rail, bus and ferries. So you get to cruise too!

Zell is midway on the famous Mosel Radweg (Bike Path) running 200km from Trier to Koblenz.

-----------------------------------------

This plan suits 4 days of easy riding.

Keep in mind there are many, many winemaker cellars and cafes to delay you!

  • Day 1: Trier-Bernkastel 60km (combine with rail Zell-Trier and bus or cruise Bernkastel-Zell)
  • Day 2: Bernkastel-Zell 40km (combine with cruise one-way)
  • Day 3: Zell-Cochem 40km (combine with rail, bus or cruise one-way)
  • Day 4: Cochem-Koblenz 60km (combine with rail Zell-Koblenz and rail, bus or cruise Cochem-Zell)

-----------------------------------------

We suggest at least a week to have time for other rides and activities, rest days - and flexibility to pick where and when you ride.

-----------------------------------------

"My week in Zell was wonderful. Thank you so much. I rode the riverbanks doing pretty much the 7 days you have suggested. I used the trains and also the ferry."

Barry from Melbourne, Aug 2014

Altogether, Zell is a great place to stay for several weeks or more!

RHINELAND

SO MANY RIVERs

Basing in Zell-Mosel and taking trains out and back, cyclists can also do day trips on bike paths following these rivers:

  • Sauer and Our Rivers bordering Luxembourg and Rhineland - train to/from Trier
  • Saar River - train to Trier / Saarburg / Saarbrucken
  • Kyll River - trains to Trier / Bitburg / Gerolstein
  • Rhine River and Gorges - train to Koblenz / points north or south
  • Lahn River - trains to Koblenz / Nassau / Limburg
  • Nahe River - trains to Idar Oberstein / Bingen
  • Main River - trains to Mainz / Frankfurt / points further

Browse these trails and more in detail (English):

www.radwanderland.de

----------------------------------------

Local station to Zell is Bullay, 6kms away. Germany's trains are very bike friendly. You'll be mostly travelling on RE (Regional Express) and RB (Regional Bahn) trains and bikes are usually free.

Some buses through Zell and other popular cycling areas have bike trailers!

----------------------------------------

Day rail/bus passes are inexpensive.

For example, 5 people can ride the VRM Network for 3 consecutive days for 42 Euro - less than 3 Euro per person per day. VRM is centred on Koblenz and extends to Zell in the west, almost to Limburg in the East, near to Siegen in the North-East, well into the Rhine Gorges to the south and north along the Rhine,  almost to Bonn.

ZELL-MOSEL MTB

off road TRAILS...

With plenty of MTB paths through the forests, downhill tracks and cross-country routes, Zellerland is a MTB Nirvana.

Zell hosts competitions through the year, has an active MTB Club and excellent bike shops in Zell and neighbouring Briedel.

Here is one site with many rides mapped:
